The Rogue River National Recreation Trail from Grave Creek to Foster Bar is in the heart of the National Wild and Scenic Rogue River Canyon. Multiple day hikes in this pristine environment are adventures in solitude, adding a new perspective of the beauty of the river corridor. Viewed from ridges, the river appears as a sparkling ribbon of diamonds as it relentlessly winds its way toward the ocean. In addition to the magnificent scenery and plentiful wildlife of the river corridor, the rich hillsides of the Rogue are alive with wild flowers.

During the months of May and early June we offer a variety of hiking trips along the Rogue River trail. All of the trips begin at Grave Creek trail head about 30 miles west of the town of Grants Pass. The trail from Grave Creek to Foster Bar is about 40 miles long and is maintained by the Bureau of Land Management and the United States Forest Service. The elevation at the trail head is 689 feet and at Foster Bar the elevation is 474. Generally speaking you are walking down hill most of the way. The trip will take at least 4 days and 3 nights. Longer trips are available, however, previous experience has proven that shorter trips are not practical. We offer 4 types of hiking trips.
4 - Day Raft Supported Wilderness Lodge Trip |
|
This 4 day, three night trip features raft support for your trip. All you will need to carry is a simple day pack for your camera, binoculars and a container of water, everything else will be packed in whitewater bags and transported by the raft. Gourmet, deli style lunches will be prepared by your guide and served at predetermined locations. The presence of the raft insures against adversity should problems develop while on the hike. The raft can transport up to 4 guests if necessary or provide an exciting ride if someone wants to try a little whitewater rafting. Lodges provide double occupancy rooms with private baths, sumptuous family style meals, and comfortable beds with linen. Round trip transportation is provided from our office in Merlin, Oregon.

The Works - 7 Day Hiking and Rafting Lodge Trip |
|
In cooperation with Backpacker magazine Rogue Wilderness is offering “The Works” for hikers who want to take full advantage of the unparalleled beauty of the Wild & Scenic Rogue River Canyon. Hikers arrive the afternoon before their hike begins at the historic Illahee Lodge located 26 miles upriver from the town of Gold Beach on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. After a relaxing night at Illahee hikers depart via the Rogue River trail 11 miles to Paradise Lodge.

Here you’ll be rowed across the river by the innkeeper for your last night on the trail. In the morning after your river crossing you’ll have an 11 mile hike to the Grave Creek trailhead. At a prearranged pickup time, a Rogue Wilderness guide will pick you up and take you to Morrison’s Rogue River Lodge where you’ll enjoy the splendor of this historic property with a five course meal to re-energize your tired feet.
The next morning you’ll depart with your guide back to Grave Creek where you’ll climb onto a Rogue Wilderness raft and start the 34 mile float back down river. Client Comments |

Dear Brad,
Just wanted you to know that we all made it back home and back to "real life" after having a week in paradise. As I did last year, I am walking on air thinking back to the wonderful experiences we had in Oregon and along the Rogue. Everything from the great weather and the exquisite wildflowers to the great lodges where we had "adult summer camp!" to the best walking and rafting in the world! And the guides were the greatest! The lodges all went out of their way to see that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. What a treat to come off the trail to a hot shower and a fantastic meal.
You and your staff should be so proud of how you conduct Rogue Wilderness Adventures. After being in Adventure Travel for the past 18 years, I do not know of any comparable company anywhere in the world.
I plan to come back year after year, giving my clients a chance to see the world in a new way, a world of the Rogue River and its wildflower laden trail. And don't be surprised to see some of this year's group returning next year to walk the trail and raft the river!
All the best,
Marie Edwards
