ROGUE RIVER SALMON AND STEELHEAD FISHING

Rogue Wilderness has specialized in Salmon and Steelhead fishing on the Rogue River since the early 1970s. Our staff of seasoned guides are experts in a variety of Salmon and Steelhead fishing techniques: fly fishing, spin casting, bait bouncing, and pulling plugs. All fishing rods and tackle as well as bait and flies are furnished by the guides.

In order to provide the kind of individual instruction we prefer, there is one guide per boat, and each boat holds only two fishermen. Our McKenzie-style drift boats are truly the "Rolls Royce" of river craft. Passengers relax in the luxury of comfortable bucket-type seats with back rests. The guide sits behind where he can give instruction and watch the rod tips for the tell-tale bite.

Our most popular multiple day fishing trips begin in the late summer with our famous Rogue River Canyon trips; here fishermen enjoy the solitude of wilderness fishing, as well as spectacular scenery, thrilling white water, and short sleeve weather. This combination makes for a fantastic fishing outing.

Trips are 3 or 4 days long and cover about 50 river miles. Midday is spent on shore where a sumptuous buffet is spread. The guides double as chefs, experienced in the art of riverbank cooking. Fresh steelhead is skinned and smoked with the leaves of nearby alder trees; next the fish is grilled over an open fire for a not-to-be forgotten taste delight.

As the light of day fades, fishermen arrive at one of our wilderness lodges. Our friendly staff prepares a delicious, family-style meal with all the home cooked goodness of days gone by. Fishermen relax in the rustic seclusion of a wilderness lodge and enjoy the comforts of home. Our lodges feature double occupancy cabins with private bath.

The summer-run steelhead begin to arrive in July on the Rogue and fishing remains productive through the fall. These beautiful, hard fighting fish are taken on flies and lures. In late August, the famous Rogue "half-pounders" begin their returns from the ocean. These 14 to 20-inch fish are great fun on light fly rods and spinning equipment.

The large winter steelhead enter Southern Oregon rivers in January, and fishing continues until April. This is an excellent fishing opportunity for the serious fisherman. There are fewer boats, fewer people, and plenty of fish.
